HOW IS MY COURSE COMPOSED
This course takes you through my entire process from the very beginning. No prior painting experience is required.
We start with the basics of acrylic painting, including brushwork and colour mixing. Then, we get into prepping our painting surface and selecting subject matter. Next, it’s applying the techniques we’ll be using for figurative painting to simpler 3D objects before we move on to painting people.
Once we get to people, we cover everything you might need with demos of hair, fabric, hands, limbs, faces, and the rules of proportion. Every module includes an artist advice video and a homework assignment to send you off with some guidance and next steps.

IN MY COURSE YOU WILL LEARN
Welcome & Introduction
Our first module includes an overview of the course, the materials you’ll want and need, the basics of colour theory, and brushwork. You’ll get to practice colour matching, and I’ll talk about what defines my style, give some advice and leave you with some homework, as always.
Planning your Painting
Module 2 will prepare us to start our paintings off strong with some background knowledge on composition, line, and value. We’ll use contour drawings and transfer tools to get our painting surfaces ready with guidelines for our paintings.
Painting 3D objects
In Module 3, we put brush to canvas and start painting 3D objects. As a precursor to figurative realism, we will learn about transition shades and paint a still life scene together. We will end with our first demo of painting a portrait.
Painting People
Now that we’re onto painting people, we dive into depicting different skin tones. Each demo for light, medium and deep skin tone focuses on a different element of figurative work, such as painting hands, profiles, and limbs.
Painting Hair & Fabric
In Module 5, we expand our skillset to paint different textures, including hair and fabric (common textures you will encounter with figurative work).

In all my videos, I try to use as many visual elements as possible, such as pictures and references, so you can take some inspiration and you can practice. You can follow each step as I show it to you, and you can comment and compare with other students under each video or in the group, so you can resolve any doubts you have and learn new tricks!
